6th, 7th and 8th Talented and Gifted

NOTICE!!!

Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 – 6th Grade Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl – After school - this will take at least 1 hour and we have purchased 3 team disks.  Contact Mrs. Cassidy as soon as possible if you are in 6th grade TAG and are interested in the contest.

 

WE ARE SIGNED UP FOR ONE TEAM FOR FUTURE CITY – ANYONE WISHING TO PARTICIPATE PLEASE LET ME KNOW BEFORE CHRISTMAS BREAK.

 

Classes

Students will work on a Video Production, Newspaper assignments, KEYB – 108 radio broadcast, as well as their regular assignments, during the Computer Rotation class throughout the year. 

 

Field Trips

The first field trip will be to the OmniPlex to watch a movie “Hurricane on the Bayou”.

 

After School Activities

Any 7th and 8th grade student wishing to compete in the “Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl”, need to sign up in Mrs. Cassidy’s classroom.  Students will complete a timed quiz and the results will be sent in to be entered into the competition.  The competition will be Wednesday, April 23rd at 3:15 in Mrs. Cassidy’s classroom.  The test is no longer than one hour. 

 

If students want to make a video from a play, speech, or something they have written (and I approve) about Oklahoma and the history of Oklahoma, Veterans’ Day, Presidents’ Day, Martin Luther King Day, etc., they may work on this after school for 40 minutes Monday – Wednesday  in Mrs. Cassidy’s classroom.

 Another project students’ may work on is the Future City Competition.  For this competition, students will need to sign up before 11-10-06 and be ready to devote many hours of after school time to this project – check out the web site to find out how much involvement students will be required to give. 

 

Another project student’s may wish to work on is the “ThinkQuest” competition.  Students need to go to this site and then study the “Recent Winners – ThinkQuest International 2007”.  After checking out all the winners and competitors, students will then study the Rules of the Contest.  Once they have completed each of these activities they will form into groups of 5 to 6 students and begin researching and deciding the type of site they want to build for the competition. 

 

Students’ may participate in the Exploravision Competition.  Students interested will need to read the rules and complete the entry process.

 

Still, another project students may work on is the Heritage Week Competition – the entry deadline is October 12, - in order to mail in the project we will need to mail by October 10th.

 

Students may compete in the Law Day Competitions (Due Dec. 14th).

 

Compete in the Oklahoma Mathematics League – registration due by December 15th -

 

Note to students and  parents

Any student who is not eligible will not be able to attend a field trip, work on an extra curricular project, or participate in any activity.

 

Students can watch Oklahoma Centennial Stories

 

Students may try the Brain Twister and see how informed they really are.

 

Read and study some of these Awesome Stories.

 

Students may play games at The Space Place.

 

At the end of each class students (if time allows) will select a different Interactive tutorial to study.
