Technical Publishing
2006-2007
Begin planning the yearbook – go to www.yearbookavenue.com login (your
login is your first initial and your last name – no spaces or caps – the job
number is 17388 – the year 2008. Study
these help tutorials and learn the program.
There have been many changes since last year.
Next begin planning the ladder (the order you think
the pages should be in the yearbook).
Remember, we have to have 3 signatures completed by 11-1-08 this is 16 pages
each in a section of 16 pages. Example
1-16 is one signature; 17-32 is a signature; but 10-26 is NOT a signature.
Begin thinking about a theme for the book. Decide on the fonts you want to use in the
book (the choices are on the bulletin board on the north wall of the classroom.
Plan the cover (anyone may begin designing a cover
and we can vote if there are more than one).
8-20 – Begin learning about Censorship and Copyright laws
pertaining to publications and public schools by reading and answering the
questions in the “Jostens Taking Issue – A Student Guide to Publication
Law.” Answer the questions at the end of
each chapter and save them as your (student’s) name on the Yearbook Server. A good site to investigate the CopyRight Law
is the Student Press
Law Center.
8-21/24
- LEARNING PHOTOSHOP: Student
will review and complete the PhotoShop Tutorials (Beginning
Photoshop - How
to Sharpen and Image – How
to use the Masking tool – Using
Masks To Improve Landscape Images – How
to use the displace filter - How to work with Shadows – How
to Fix Over Exposed images – How to
Resize an Image without losing quality – How to
Wrap text abound an object). Design
a cover or a page for the first page of the book, design a schedule for the
Quaterback Club, or design a picture for the Quaterback Club Member plaque.
8-29-07 – Students will read Chapter 2 of the “Student Guide
to Publication Law” book. After reading
the chapter students will answer the questions on page 9. These must be complete answers typed in Word,
saved in their folder on the yearbook server and printed out and handed in
before they leave class.
DIGITAL
CAMERA: Students will take
snapshot pictures and then down load pictures and save them in the appropriate
folders. Students will sign-out a camera for two days at a time. Check List You must complete a Check List each time
you use the digital camera and the grade will be recorded as an Extra help
grade.
8-23/30 - LEARNING PAGEMAKER: Students will review the tutorial about using
PageMaker. View each of the Tutorials
about Adobe PageMaker. Have questions
ready for me to answer. Students will
complete the 2006 Elementary yearbook.
8-31 – Students will view the PowerPoint presentation “Planning
A Yearbook” and define the vocabulary words given on the presentation (type
these in Microsoft Word and save them as Your Name-Vocab Words on the yearbook
server – I will check them there).
9-2 - Picture Composition
9-3/9-9 - LEARNING PHOTOSHOP: Students will watch and review the tutorial given
about the PhotoShop software program. (3
days) Once the tutorial has been completed students will make a collage using
their pictures they have taken to complete a collage. Check
List for Collage. Elementary Cover design is due on the 9-30-06.
9-12 - Students will begin building pages for the
yearbook. Page
assignments and Due dates are listed. Students will receive a zero if their pages
are not completed on the assigned dates. If for some reason there are
pictures and information (such as ADS to fill the page) that are not available at the time of the due
date, pages should be completed to the best of the student’s ability (the ten
pictures should be placed on the side of the page) and turned in to be checked
on the date the page is due. Students’
are responsible for having all needed pictures for their pages. Example: if a student is missing on the class page the
student assigned this page is responsible for taking a digital picture and
placing on the page; or if a picture is needed for an AD students are
responsible for getting that picture themselves or to make arrangements with
another student in the class to get the picture and I will count this as an
Extra help grade for the student helping.
If for some reason a student is never at school then allowances will be
made BUT the student must make every effort to get the picture themselves. DO NOT
EXPECT THE TEACHER TO GET ALL PICTURES. THIS IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY.
Anyone with a driver’s license is responsible for taking needed Ad pictures
(helping younger students get the Ad pictures they need for their pages will
count as extra work.)
Students will receive 2 grades for each page assigned
(one for correctness/creativity of the page and one for timeliness (pages with
NO errors turned in at least one week early will receive + points)
Students are required to take pictures at scheduled events – if they must trade with other students
both students must report this to Mrs. Cassidy prior to the event. – Students
must take no less than 5 pictures of every player in the event (more would be
better – especially of the seniors).
Each page must be meet the requirements as documented
in the Rubric – grades will be given according to
standards set on the Rubric.
