7th and 8th Grade Computer Literacy

 

3-24-08 – Students will quickly review the skills they learned last year using the Microsoft Word program.  Students will first write a letter to Mr. Biggs telling him what they think about the improvements in the school building.  This letter must have a letterhead with their name and address, a graphic from the Microsoft clipart site, and the students’ signature at the end of the letter.  They must also create an envelope with their address and Mr. Biggs school address, 300 E. Grand, Frederick, OK 73542. 

3-25-08 – Students will login to the Oklahoma Career Information System and begin mapping their goals for High School, higher education and a career.  Get a login and strip of paper from the teacher login.  Then, go to the link “Career Quest (Occ. Sort) on the left hand margin of the page under the Assessments tab and read the instructions and complete the Assessment.  After taking the Career Assessment complete the ONet Profiler to find your interests in different occupations.  Then complete the ONet Work Importance assessment.  Once you have determined your interested area for a career then research the selected career choice and determine your educational goals you will need to set and begin working towards in High School and beyond.  After each choice and assessment click on the Save button at the top right-hand corner of the page and this will save all of your information for future reference.  Once you have figured your salary go take the “Reality Check” and see how well you have chosen. 

3-26-08/3-28-08 – Students will build a 5 slide PowerPoint presentation using the information they found on the Career website.  The first slide will be a title slide with the student’s name on it and the career they have selected.  Each of the following 4 slides will have information about the career they have selected; 1 – tasks that are required of the career, 2 – salary and growth, 3 – the education needed for the career, 4 – where you would need to live in order to have this career.  There must be a slide transition between each slide, a picture or graphic on 3 of the 6 slides and each slide must be animated.  This is an example for you to use as a guide. Review the rules and guidelines on creating an effective PowerPoint presentation.  Students must follow the guidelines of color, text, and organization to achieve the best grade.

 

3-31-08/4-10-08 - Students will build a 10 slide PowerPoint for a class they are presently taking. Check grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation and content.  This must be something they can show to help a teacher teach the subject.  Each slide must have animation and a slide transition must be between each slide.

 

4-11-08 – Students will then create a newsletter using brief captions under pictures depicting 4 things about the career they have selected.  Students may review how to build a Newsletter.

 

4-14-08/4-23-08 – Fun! Fun! Fun! Today we will begin learning Photoshop. Students will learn to select sections from the pictures; to lighten images; add text to the picture; and anything else they can imagine doing.  LEARNING PHOTOSHOP: Student will review and complete the PhotoShop Tutorials (Beginning Photoshop - How to Sharpen and ImageHow to use the Masking toolUsing Masks To Improve Landscape ImagesHow to use the displace filter -  How to work with Shadows – How to Fix Over Exposed imagesHow to Resize an Image without losing qualityHow to Wrap text abound an object).  Design a cover or a page for the first page of the book, design a schedule for the Quarterback Club, or design a picture for the Quarterback Club Member plaque.

 

4-24-08 – Students may become and Architect at this interactive site which encourages critical thinking through exploration of architectural concepts and design principles.  Students will follow the instructions and select clients to design a home for and then design the home using the program. Once they have completed the design they must write a summary about the house, what they think the client will really like about the design and how the design met the needs of the client.

 

4-25-08/5-9-08 – Students will study the information at the Computer Basics website.  Students need to study the information given at this site because they will have quizzes on Sections 10-12.  Be sure to complete the practice activities.  Be able to answer questions or give demonstrations of the following questions and activities.  Copy and paste these questions into a Word document – type the answers to the questions – save in your folder – print and turn in to Mrs. Cassidy for a grade.

5-12-08/5-19-08 – Students will begin learning to build web pages.  Students will learn to place images on pages – add text – resize text – change the color of the page and text – add links to the page – and more.  Read/study each of the links given in order to begin building a webpage about the information used on the Educational PowerPoint presentation.  Lissa Explains and HTML Coding

 

5-20-08/5-22-08 – Students will build a webpage for a sports team placing the schedule on the page.
