5th
Grade
This year we are going to focus on enhancing creativity and
responsibility in the Talented and Gifted classes by being responsible for
segments of the BNN, designing and building a web site and building the
Yearbook for the Elementary classes.
We will have two field trips. One will be to the National Cowboy Hall of Fame
where student will tour 2 exhibits; “Samuel Colt: Arms,
Art and Invention” and “Art from Fort Marion: The Silberman Collection”(please,
print and sign the permission slip).
The second field trip will be trip to the Van der
Laan Dairy. These Field Trips may
change should something more interesting come along.
ATTENTION: ANYONE WISHING TO HELP WITH THE ABERNATHY
BROTHERS DISPLAY AT THE MUSEUM DURING THE ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL (SEPT. 22)
NEEDS TO CONTACT MRS. CASSIDY AT 305-1101.
STUDENTS CAN HELP FOR 30 MINUTES SEGMENTS OR AS LONG AS THEY WISH. THEIR DUTIES WOULD BE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS
ABOUT THE BROTHERS HISTORY. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR ALL
STUDENTS.
Activities that any and all students may compete in, students
must read the instructions and follow the rules then turn the project into Mrs.
Cassidy:
Heritage Week
Poster Competition – 4th – 6th – Deadline Friday,
October 12th at 5:00 p.m. (if Mrs. Cassidy needs to take to the City she will
need the poster no later than October 5th.
Students can watch Oklahoma
Centennial Stories in commemoration of the Centennial.
Students’ are going to have an active
participation in the making of BNN each week.
So, students will be expected to bring stories hopefully, e-mail me when
they need a camera or pictures taken, otherwise, they will be expected to check
the calendar a week to 2 weeks ahead so that they can tell me when an Artist in
Residence will be present or when classes are studying something unique that
would be fun to share with the community.
Another project student’s will be
working on is the “ThinkQuest” competition. Students need to go to this site and then
study the “Recent
Winners – ThinkQuest International 2007”. After checking out all the winners and
competitors, students will then study the Rules of the Contest. Once they have completed each of these
activities they will form into groups of 5 to 6 students and begin researching
and deciding the type of site they want to build for the competition.
The yearbook project will be the
responsibility of the Elementary Talented and Gifted students.
Also, each week students will spend
20 to 30 minutes working on Scholastic Math.
Students may play
games at The Space
Place.
