Frederick Middle School Science Class - Innovations!
The Coin Experiment - Materials used for this experiment were a plate, glass of water, and a coin. Students sat the coin on the plate then put the glass cup over the coin. Students could still see the coin but as water was poured into the glass the coin disappeared. The reason was because when light hits water it bends. The Potato Experiment - Materials used for this experiment were a potato and a straw. Students were asked to stab a straw through a potato and failed. Mr. Clayton then demonstrated how to successfully stab the straw through the potato by trapping air in the straw when you place your finger over the end. The air trapped inside the straw gives the straw enough strength to penetrate the skin of the potato. As the straw enters the potato, the potato plug compresses the air inside the straw, increasing the air pressure, and strengthening the straw.

Frederick Middle School collects for the Tillman County Food Bank - Coach McCauley wins Honor to "Cheer" at FMS Pep Rally - Integrity!
Frederick Middle School raised money for the Food Bank by voting (filling a jar with change) for the faculty member they wished to CHEER at the first FMS Basketball Pep Rally. Coach Whitney McCauley won the honor and cheered at the FMS Pep Rally Monday, November 22nd. Students raised $710.15 for the Food Bank with this project. Frederick Middle School raised money for the Food Bank by voting (filling a jar with change) for the faculty member they wished to CHEER at the first FMS Basketball Pep Rally. Frederick Middle School Student Council attended the Oklahoma State Student Council Convention and was honored for serving as the 2010-2011 Oklahoma Association of the Junior High Student Council and for being the State Honor Council. At the convention the FMS Student Council won the election for Vice President for 2011-2012. Drew Biggs - FMS STUCO President gave a campaign speech and the members performed a skit during the campaign session. During the two day conference members learned about being leaders in life, school, and community.

Frederick 8th Grade Talented & Gifted students attended the UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER OKLAHOMA CENTER FOR NEUROSCIENCE 2011 Mini-Medical School, Tuesday, November 1st. Mini-Medical School is designed to increase interest and career exploration in medical and research sciences among undergraduates and high school students. The project is supported by Grant Number P20RR016478 from the National Center for Research Resources, a component of the National Institutes of Health. Students were allowed the opportunity to sit in the seat of a medical student for one night and learn about the brain and its functions. Mini-Medical School combined basic science (anatomy and physiology) and clinical situations in multiple lectures. Students gained a better understanding of the brain's function and of neurodegenerative diseases from a doctor's perspective. Preparing for the Brain Lab.

Frederick Middle School Food Drive!
Frederick Middle School is holding the annual Food Drive, collecting food for the local area Food Bank. FMS students look forward to this every year and really make a challenging event of the project. Each grade is competing against the other at the Middle School to bring the most food items. Each year several thousand items have been delivered to the Tillman County Food Bank from the Middle School. This drive is going from now until November 11th!

Students are investigating the requirements of their choice for a career and then presenting the information to the class in a PowerPoint presentation. Mr. Clayton's 7th grade Science class, in the Frederick Middle School, is applying the Scientific Method while learning about chemical reactions. Students did an experiment with Diet Coke and Menots by dropping crushed Mentos into a plastic bottle of Diet Coke and watching the reaction. Students explained that when the Diet Coke mixes with the Mentos, carbon dioxide is formed increasing the pressure in the bottle which causes the eruption of liquid.
