April 2010
Volume I, Issue 8
This month is full of activities. We will also draw a close to golf, baseball,
track and softball this month. Band and
choir have performances this month along with concerts and a festival in
May. We have seven weeks left in this
school year. It hardly seems possible
that we’re that close to the end of another year. We have enjoyed this year so much, but we’re
not going to ease up at all. We’re going
to finish strong! We are focusing our attention
on the state testing window which begins next week.
Life Principles and Quotes of the Week…
This year, as
part of our implementation of Great Expectations, everyone on our campus will
be aware and focus on the life principle and quote of the week. April’s life principles and quotes of the
week are some of my favorite.
April 5 – Humility – being humble, not proud or haughty, not arrogant
“There is nothing
noble in being superior to someone else.
The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.” -Hindu
proverb
April 12 – Resiliency – recovering from or adjusting easily to misfortune
or change
“All things are
difficult before they are easy.” -Dr.
Thomas Fuller
April 19 – Strength – the quality of being strong; force, power, vigor
“Nothing is so
strong as gentleness, and nothing is so gentle as real strength.” -Ralph
W. Sockman
April 26 – Responsibility – being responsible for one’s actions, duties,
or obligations
“The price of
greatness is responsibility.” -Sir
Winston Churchill
Technology Topics…
We’re excited that we were able to install
five more document cameras over the past couple of weeks. We were pleased that these cameras work well
with our other technology. A teacher can
place a paper under the document camera then use the InterWrite Schoolpad to
write on the document from across the room.
Our advanced instructional technology is possible because of our school
enrichment foundation, businesses and individuals in town (including parents)
who have supported our efforts to excel in our pursuit of this need for our
school.
We have also installed two more security
cameras in the building. We can’t have
enough eyes to help protect our students and staff. We would like to install more cameras as
funds become available.
Maintenance…
We are excited about the warmer weather!
We were finally able to scalp the front lawn, and we’ll make
arrangements to fertilize soon. We also
have plans to trim up the crepe myrtles and trees on campus. We have lots of weeds around the back of the
campus that we will be spraying this week.
It just seems like our work here never ends. I grew up in a house that was built in the
late 1800’s. This building is so similar
to that house. There’s always something
that needs work!
State Criterion
Reference Testing (CRT’s)…
The state testing window opens next Monday, April 12. We will be testing for four weeks. After that window, we will be doing our NWEA
benchmark testing the week before school is out. The testing schedule is noted on the
calendar at the bottom of the second page.
Paper/pencil tests will be completed at the Great Plains Technology
Center. All online testing will be given
on campus in our computer lab.
After-School Tutoring…
Teachers are
available to tutor students after school each day from 3:00-3:30 p.m. Teachers are willing to help students during
this time, and later, if the need arises.
Please encourage your child to attend tutoring if he or she is having
trouble with any class.
FHS/FMS Principal…
Pending board approval on Monday night, I will be the next principal at
Frederick High School. I leave with
mixed emotions. While I am excited about
the opportunity to serve our community as high school principal, I have special
feelings for the staff and students at Frederick Middle School. Words can’t express how I appreciate the FMS
faculty and their willingness to work with me to educate our kids. We have a wonderful staff at FMS, and they
will continue to improve. The search
committee and Mr. O’Brien will hire a very worthy person to help guide FMS to
the next level. As FHS principal, I will
work diligently to encourage a positive, upbeat, progressive high school that
honors the instructors who have prepared them prior to high school while
preparing them for success in their endeavors after graduation.
Remaining Breaks…
There will be five weeks until the next scheduled break in May. We will have a Snow Day on May 14.
The Frederick Middle School Creed…
I am an honest, disciplined, intelligent Frederick Bomber.
I will be well-prepared for the challenges of each day.
I will work diligently to surpass my goals and reach my full potential.
I will learn from my mistakes and set a positive example for my peers.
I will Value others as unique individuals and treat them with respect
because…
Everyone is Someone at Frederick Middle School
